The Symphony Orchestra will donate all the proceeds from the third concert of the season to benefit those affected by the DANA in Valencia
The Orquesta Sinfónica Islas Baleares will offer the third concert of the subscription season on the 12th of December 2024, in the Auditorium of Palma, at 8 p.m., conducted by the resident conductor Pablo Mielgo. It will be a concert of solidarity, as the FOSIB will donate all the proceeds from the box office to the Federation of Musical Societies of the Comunitat Valenciana for the benefit of those affected by the DANA in Valencia. With this solidarity initiative, the OSIB is trying to help those affected by the terrible storm that has mostly affected the Valencian Community. Tickets are already on sale and can be purchased on the Symphony Orchestra’s website or at the Palma Auditorium box office.
The concert will begin with a first part dedicated to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with the opening of Don Giovanni and Piano Concerto No. 23, one of the most performed and important works in the piano repertoire, combining virtuosity and sensitivity. The concert will feature solo pianist Eva Gevorgyan.
Eva Gevorgyan is a Yamaha Young Artist, and has won awards in over forty piano competitions, including the 2018 Cleveland International Competition for Young Pianists and the 2019 Van Cliburn Competition for Young Artists. Most recently, in 2023, she has won the Prix du Bern in Switzerland, the ‘Discovery Award’ at the ‘International Classical Music Awards’ 2019, and the National Grand Prix at the Russian National Orchestra Competition in 2021; and she was a finalist and winner of the Special Prize at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw (Poland).
The second part will feature the work Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky. It is a work inspired by ten paintings by his painter friend Viktor Hartman, which stands out for its expressiveness and musical colours. It was originally written for piano and became popular thanks to Maurice Ravel’s orchestration.
This concert will be repeated the following day, 13th December, at 7.30 pm, in the Auditori de Manacor.
