Mental Health organises a conference on the benefits of physical activity on emotional well-being

The Directorate General of Mental Health, part of the Regional Ministry of Health, has organised a conference on Friday 13th December to discuss the benefits of physical activity on emotional wellbeing and how physical exercise is linked to mental health. Different professionals, experiences and programmes that focus on the relationship between physical exercise and emotional well-being will take part in the event. Olympic athletes Maria Vasco and Gemma Mengual will take part in the conference, and, among other issues, will talk about the role of mental health in high-performance competition.

The General Directorate of Sports, the Balearic Islands Health Service, the University of the Balearic Islands, which will host the conference, and Otsuka Pharmaceutical have collaborated in the organisation of the event.

This conference – aimed at professionals, sports federations, students, activists and the general public – aims to provide an in-depth look at the health benefits of physical activity and sport. More and more programmes and actions are being implemented both in terms of prevention and therapeutic strategies.

The conference ‘Sport and physical exercise with emotional well-being’ will take place on Friday 13 December from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm in the auditorium of the Guillem Cifre de Colonya building of the UIB. Olympic medallists and world champions Maria Vasco (race walking) and Gemma Mengual (synchronised swimming) will take part in a round table in which they will talk about their experience.

The experiences of Yes With Cancer and the Healthy and Sustainable University Office will also be presented as two examples of the contribution of sport and physical exercise to health.
