The more than 500 toys collected will go to the Monti-Sion Solidaria solidarity initiative, which aims to ensure that children in vulnerable situations can enjoy a present this Christmas. President Llorenç Galmés stressed that ‘thanks to the collaboration and solidarity of Mallorcans, we have collected a large number of toys in the different buildings of the Consell de Mallorca, which will be given to children this Christmas’.
For his part, the head of the organisation, Blai Vidal, thanked ‘the fantastic reception this initiative has received from the Consell de Mallorca’ and added that ‘we hope to continue working together in the coming years to bring hope to children’.
The Monti-Sion Solidària Foundation keeps the toy collection programme active throughout the year. The volunteers of the entity are in charge of receiving and processing the donations through various tasks, such as cleaning, sorting, repairing, placing batteries and packaging the gifts, leaving them ready for delivery.
The entity makes sure that all the toys delivered are in perfect condition and look brand new. In addition, they manage the data of each beneficiary family in a computerised way to better plan the necessary material, taking into account the number of children and their ages. On 4 January, the foundation organises an exhibition of the toys collected so that the children, accompanied by their parents and volunteers, can choose their favourites.
