The magic of Christmas returns to the gardens of La Misericòrdia with the Living Nativity Scene
The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, and the vice-president and councillor of Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, were in charge of inaugurating this eagerly awaited event, which stood out for its full programme and emotionally charged moments, such as the parade of the Three Wise Men, who made several visits throughout the afternoon, and the singing of the Sibyl, which this year was performed by Carla Vázquez. There was also a concert of Christmas carols performed by the Children’s Choir of the Teatre Principal de Palma.
Those in attendance were able to stroll around the gardens of La Misericòrdia, where there were different stalls: artisans selling their products, matanceras, seamstresses, Mallorcan food, fishermen and numerous little shepherds. At the end of the route, there was a nativity scene with the Baby Jesus.
More than 100 people took part in the re-enactment, as well as 87 animals from the Natura Park, including sheep, goats, chickens, piglets, turkeys, rabbits, ducks, donkeys and horses. This initiative is part of the Christmas in La Misericòrdia programme that the Consell de Mallorca is holding from 6th December to 5th January, which includes a food and toy collection to benefit the Banc d’Aliments and Monti-Sion Solidària, respectively.
The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, stressed that the Living Nativity Scene is not only an opportunity to experience Christmas through tradition and culture, but also to promote values such as solidarity and community, which are essential during the festive season. With this recreation, the Consell de Mallorca consolidates its commitment to recovering and strengthening the traditions that unite families and bring Mallorcan Christmas to life.
