New payment by the Government to the primary sector of the Balearic Islands: Agriculture pays 10.07 million euros of CAP aid 2024
The councillor Joan Simonet explained that this new income to the sector already corresponds to payments of the balance, as the regulations establish that from 1 December the balance of the aid requested can begin to be paid. Simonet stated that ‘we will not stop working, with the main objective that we have set ourselves since the beginning of the legislature, which is none other than that the sector receives the aid as soon as possible, thanks to the fact that FOGAIBA is resolving all the calls for applications as quickly as possible’.
In this sense, the minister stressed, ‘this new payment of 10 million euros is a sign of the Government’s firm and absolute commitment to the sector. In addition, we continue to work to streamline the bureaucracy as much as possible and provide all possible facilities to farmers, livestock farmers and fishermen of the Balearic Islands.
Specifically, today’s payment is intended for a total of 4,350 beneficiaries and corresponds to 12 lines of aid. 5.7 million euros have been paid for basic income aid; 1.1 million euros for complementary redistributive aid; and 1 million euros for aid associated with extensive sheep and goat farming; a total of 740. 740,828 euros for aid for cow’s milk production; more than half a million euros for supplementary aid for young people; 233,149 euros for aid for nuts; 222,577 euros for aid for sheep and goats without pasture; 157,608 euros for aid for the Protein Plan; and other types of aid totalling almost 170,000 euros.
When analysed by island, the distribution of amounts and beneficiaries is as follows: in Mallorca, 3,723 beneficiaries, totalling 7,473,133.35 euros; in Menorca, there have been 345 beneficiaries, with an income of 2,437,202.18 euros; in Ibiza, the number of beneficiaries is 250, for an amount of 147,546.93 euros; and finally, in Formentera, 32 applicants have benefited, with a total of 16,461.46 euros.
It should be remembered that the ordinary payment period of the CAP 2024 starts on 1 December 2024 and ends on 30 June 2025. This 2024 call is the second CAP campaign of the new period (2023-2027), which recognises the special characteristics of agricultural and livestock production in the Balearic Islands and compensates for the additional costs of insularity borne by the primary sector.
