Among the novelties is the creation of a new bus line leaving Ciutadella in the direction of the airport.

The plenary session of the Consell Insular de Menorca (Island Council of Menorca) has initially approved the new preliminary projects for public road transport concessions, specifically for IB06, IB07 and IB08 regular public passenger transport on the island, marking a step forward in modernising and adapting the system to Menorca’s needs.

The Consell Insular (Island Council) initially approves the new preliminary drafts of public road transport concessions

After successive extensions of the concessions in force since 1997 and after the withdrawal of two previous drafts in 2018 and 2021, this new one takes into account the allegations of 2021 and includes important improvements.

In IB06:

  • L01 (Maó-Ciutadella). There will be an increase in the number of journeys on weekdays and Saturdays. In addition, the 6.45 a.m. line with a stop at Bintalfa will be reinforced.
  • L90 (Bus Nit). A service will be introduced on Fridays.
  • L15 (Maó-Circumvalació). A reinforcement will be included at Bintalfa. To cater for students living in areas far from the station, partial routes will be established at the times when students enter and leave the Bintalfa secondary schools.
  • L16 (Ciutadella-Aeroport). A new line will be established. It will be adapted to the flight timetables, with the first departure at 5.00 a.m.
  • L10 (Maó-Aeroport). The summer timetable will be extended from 1 May to 31 October.

On the IB07:

  • L60 (Bus Ciutadella) and buses to virgin beaches. The frequency and timetable of the lines will be increased.

On IB08:

  • L23 (Maó-Es Grau). Daily departures will be increased in summer with extended timetables. The first route will be at 8.15am.
  • L33 (Alaior-Cala en Porter). New stops will be added, such as Son Vitamina and Platja. These will be adapted to the schools of Alaior, and there will also be special services to go to the Mercat de Nit de Alaior, with three additional departures in the direction of Cala en Porter and two in the direction of Alaior.

‘These preliminary projects foresee 10-year contracts and have been drawn up taking into account the lines, routes, frequencies and timetables considered necessary to provide the service required by all Menorcans and their urgent needs. In addition, requests from local councils and groups have been taken into account to complete generalised improvements for everyone’, explained Juan Manuel Delgado, the Conseller de Movilidad of the Consell Insular.
