The president and the mayoress of Santa Eulària have inaugurated the complete refurbishment of this 550-metre stretch and a new roundabout with a diameter of 33 metres.

The president of the Eivissa Island Council, Vicent Marí, and the mayoress of Santa Eulalia del Río, Carmen Ferrer, today inaugurated the road that links the Puig d’en Fita and Can Ramon neighbourhoods with the centre of the town of Santa Eulalia. The 550-metre-long road has been fitted with pavements, pedestrian crossings, bus stops and a 33-metre-diameter roundabout to replace the now defunct ‘Siesta crossing’ at Calle dels Clavells, giving the neighbourhood greater accessibility, fluidity and safety.

President Vicent Marí explained that these works ‘respond to a historical demand from the residents of this area dating back to 2007 on the part of the Town Hall, and will provide safe access, both on foot and by vehicle, from Siesta, Can Ramon and Can Nadal to Santa Eulària’.

Vicent Marí explained that ‘these are neighbourhoods that are very close in terms of distance, but which were far away in terms of access possibilities, given that the lack of infrastructure meant that many residents had to go by private vehicle because it was dangerous to go on foot’.

The president specified that ‘this situation no longer exists, thanks to the creation of a safe road, the elimination of a curve in the layout that reduced visibility, the creation of two new bus stops and the elimination of electricity and telephone lines’. In addition, ‘the width of the lanes for vehicles has been increased by half a metre in each direction and there are safety barriers along the entire stretch’.

For her part, the mayoress of Santa Eulalia del Río, Carmen Ferrer, emphasised that ‘these works are a response to a historic demand of the residents of this area. They have also enabled the Town Hall to carry out various works to improve municipal infrastructure in these neighbourhoods, so we are doubly congratulated’.

These works have been carried out by the UTE XXV Mejora carretera EI-100, formed by TECOPSA and Hermanos Parrot for a contract value of 3,229,826.07 euros (VAT included).

This project is financed by Next Generation – EU funds within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which granted the Consell d’Eivissa a total of 900,000 euros for works on new bus stops and improvements to existing ones on the Eivissa intercity bus network.
