A total of 700 establishments of the part forana participate in the II Concurso de Escaparates de Navidad organised by the Consell de Mallorca in support of local trade

The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, accompanied by the councillor for Economic Promotion and Local Development, presided over the awards ceremony, which was held at the Museum of Mallorca and brought together traders, representatives of institutions and the general public. The awards ceremony was also attended by the island’s director of Commerce, Alfredo Arias; the president of Afedeco, Joana Manresa, and the president of Pimeco, Carolina Domingo.

‘This year’s massive participation is proof of the talent and dedication of our shopkeepers. They have turned their shop windows into true works of art, which transmit the magic of Christmas and the illusion of the Three Wise Men,’ said the president of the Consell de Mallorca during his speech.

Winners: creativity and tradition in equal parts

The jury awarded the three first prizes to shop windows that stood out for their originality, emotion and craftsmanship:

First prize: Óptica Llucmajor (2.000 €). The shop window represents the illusion of children on the night of the Three Kings. With careful staging, two little children watch from their beds as the Three Wise Men arrive laden with gifts. A window frames the scene, transporting the spectator to a magical night full of tenderness and dreams.

Second prize: Fils i Vetes, Andratx (1.000 €). This small shop, which has been a local reference for years, presented a handmade Nativity scene made with rope, sackcloth and traditional Mallorcan llengües fabrics. The background recreates the landscape of Andratx, including its church and mountains. This showcase is the result of years of expansion and dedication, reflecting both tradition and the innovative character of its owners.

Third prize: Miramà, Santanyí (500 €). The owner of this children’s products shop, a mother and shopkeeper, created a window display that portrays with humour and creativity the daily experience of many parents: ‘I don’t stop cleaning clothes!’ The window display, made entirely out of cardboard, includes a washing machine, an ironing board and items of clothing that stand out with their striking red colour, creating a unique visual contrast.

In addition, these three winners and twelve other finalists received baskets of local products in recognition of their participation and effort.

A commitment to the future of local commerce

The Councillor for Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate, underlined ‘the importance of these initiatives to boost local commerce. The talent and creativity that we have seen this year are proof of the fundamental role played by our small businesses. They are the ones who bring life to our streets and reinforce the identity of our municipalities’.

This competition not only promotes creativity but also encourages local consumption. The cash prizes, to be spent in Mallorcan shops, reinforce the commitment to the circular economy and mutual support among traders.

The Consell de Mallorca has reaffirmed its commitment to traditional trade and has announced new actions to continue strengthening this sector in future editions. ‘Local commerce is much more than a shopping option: it is culture, tradition and a bond that unites us as a society. We will continue to work to support those who every day raise the shutters with effort and passion’, said Pilar Amate.

Thanks to the generosity of several Mallorcan companies, it has not only been possible to enrich the hampers given to the winners, but also to offer the attendees an aperitif with local products. The collaborating entities include Petit Cellers, Ca na Cati, Agromart, Flor de Sal, Gori de Muro, Embutidos Munar, Frutos secos Capó, Glosa Marina, Dos Perellons, Embotits Fiol, IGP Ametlla de Mallorca and Embotits Sa Caldera.

Their support not only enhances the value of local commerce but also reinforces the collective commitment to the preservation and promotion of the best of Mallorca.
