The government intensified the fight against illegal nautical charters with a record number of sanctioning proceedings in 2024
Of these 153 sanctioning proceedings, 64 relate to minor infringements and 89 to serious infringements, with proposed penalties totalling 462,200.01 euros. This figure represents a significant increase concerning previous years, consolidating 2024 as the year with the highest number of proceedings initiated.
Of the actions carried out this year, 65 cases have already been finalised, while 88 are still in different stages of processing. These data confirm the Government’s efforts to eradicate illegal practices that compromise maritime safety and the environment in Balearic waters.
An upward trend
Over the last five years, there has been a steady increase in the number of sanctioning proceedings. The year 2024 stands out especially for the significant increase compared to 2023, when 109 sanctioning proceedings were opened with penalties totalling 125,020 euros.
This year’s campaign is the fourth consecutive year in which the collaboration between the Directorate General of Ports and Maritime Transport and the Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil has been intensified. This collaboration makes it possible to detect, sanction and prevent infringements related to the rental of boats without the legal requirements or in breach of other applicable regulations, as well as activities such as anchoring in unauthorised areas.
