Since yesterday, a multidisciplinary team of professionals from Son Espases, Vall d’Hebrón Hospital and SAMU061 have worked together to provide care and coordinate the transfer.
Through the Councillor of Health, the Government of the Balearic Islands, Manuela García, has urgently requested the Spanish Government to activate an Air Force plane to transfer a girl who remains hospitalised at Son Espases. The thirteen-month-old girl is currently being cared for by a multidisciplinary team of professionals from the Paediatric ICU at Son Espases, the Hospital Vall d’Hebrón, the centre to which she will be transferred, and SAMU 061.

The Government urgently requests the Spanish Government to activate an Army plane to transfer a girl admitted to the ICU at Son Espases.
A team of five paediatric professionals from Vall d’Hebron Hospital went to Son Espases with ECMO equipment to stabilise the child. At the same time, a formal request was made to the Ministry of Defence for air transport to carry out the transfer, as has been done on other occasions. The transfer was authorised this morning, although no protocol has yet been activated. The Regional Minister of Health, Manuela García, spoke this morning with the government delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez, to speed up its activation, and also tried to contact the minister, without success.
The patient has suffered cardiorespiratory failure caused by an infectious process that necessitates her treatment with ECMO and transfer to a national reference centre. The ECMO device replaces the functions of the heart and lungs while she stabilises and receives treatment for her illness.
At the same time, the Health Service has contacted various aviation companies to explore the possibility of carrying out the transfer, which is not possible, given that the aircraft must have certain characteristics that only the Army’s aircraft has.
