The Government and the Consell de Menorca tackle strategic projects to boost the island’s water cycle

The meeting provided an opportunity to follow up on the main investments in the water cycle in Menorca, focusing on the agreement signed with Consell Insular, which includes municipal projects related to this area. The plan to improve sanitation, which includes important actions at the Mercadal, Sant Lluís and Binidalí wastewater treatment plants, and the project to expand the Ciutadella Sud wastewater treatment plant, was monitored.

The progress of the water reuse projects was also reviewed and the status of the emergency works undertaken after the damage caused by the DANA last August, which had a significant impact on the island’s hydraulic infrastructures, was reported on.

Another of the priority issues discussed was the Es Caragolí project, which aims to inject water into Ciutadella’s supply network and thus prevent overexploitation of the aquifers.

In a later meeting, the Balearic Government officials held a meeting with the mayor of Ciutadella, Llorenç Ferrer, and representatives of the municipality’s business sector to discuss a strategic project related to the industrial estate.

The objective of this meeting was to work on resolving the rainwater problem affecting the existing industrial estate and its future expansion. This problem of municipal competence, intensified by poor drainage in the area, requires a comprehensive solution to ensure the functionality and sustainable growth of the area.

The businessmen have expressed their concern about the urgency of these actions, underlining the need for collaboration between the public administrations and the private sector to speed up the solutions.
