The Deputy Mayor for Citizen Participation, Lourdes Roca, presented the events, highlighting more than 20 musical performances on the day of the Verbena on different stages and with prominent artists such as L.A., Maria Hein, Marc Seguí, Jaume Anglada and Tomeu Penya.
This Friday, Palma City Council presented the main events of the new edition of the Fiestas de San Sebastián 2025, which begin this Saturday, 11th January, and will last until 26th January.
As explained by the Deputy Mayor for Citizen Participation, Lourdes Roca, accompanied by the coordinator of the area, Pedro Miró, and the general manager, Patricia Díaz, the edition ‘maintains and preserves the most characteristic features of the Verbena’ and, as was initiated last year, ‘recovers the commitment to local talent combined with current music’. Roca also made special mention of the official poster for the festivities, which has been designed expressly for the occasion by the renowned Mallorcan artist Rafa Forteza, ‘one of the most outstanding figures for understanding the evolution of contemporary Spanish plastic art in recent decades’.

The programme for the Fiestas de San Sebastián 2025 is committed to local talent, incorporates ‘sus’ concerts and maintains the ‘tardeos’
‘The poster brings a modern and personal vision of the celebration, and exemplifies the efforts of this Town Hall to consolidate Palma on a national and international level’.
The programme kicks off this Saturday, 11th January, in the Plaza de Cort, with activities for the little ones from 10.30 am to 2 pm, such as the children’s workshop ‘Come and paint the peppers’ and the traditional ‘awakening’ of the Drac de Na Coca. There will also be a face-in-hole to take photographs with the Dragon of Na Coca and the Nam Sobrats Batucada, along with the Municipal School of Music of Palma, which will offer live performances.
The official inauguration will be attended by the masters of ceremonies, represented this year by members of the Children’s Council.
The public will be able to enjoy a wide range of entertainment, which will combine the batucada with the dance of the Gigantes y Cabezudos (giants and big-heads).
The Dragon of na Coca will have a special protagonism that day, through the ‘pregoncito’ entitled ‘El Dragón de na Coca y la llama de la fiesta’, by Caterina Valriu, or the ‘despertada’, which consists of the delivery of cherry peppers to the Dragon so that it maintains its strength and does not lack the flame that gives spirit and light to the festival.
This first day also includes parallel activities, such as a children’s train in the Plaça Major, and the inauguration of the exhibition ‘ADN San Sebastián’, dedicated to the history of the patron saint of Palma, which can be visited from the 11th to the 26th of January on Avinguda Antoni Maura.
In addition, this year the City Council is supporting the initiative of the Obrería de San Sebastián, and Palma will have a new festival, El Día de la Peste, which will be held on Saturday 11th January, at 5 p.m., starting at Plaza de Cort.
On the other hand, on Sunday the 12th of January San Sebastián Petit will take place in Riera Park, with activities starting at 10:30 am, such as workshops, a gymkhana and other sports and educational activities by the EMT and the Local Police, as well as a climbing wall and the Barridiades of the Municipal Sports Institute.
As for the concert line-up, the councillor emphasised the commitment to local talent and different musical styles and modalities, ‘to satisfy the tastes of the public and offer a programme for all ages’.
In this sense, he highlighted the incorporation this year of the ‘sus’ concerts, which will be held on 17 January in Plaça d’Espanya, with performances by Midnight Walkers, Lyra’s Hëll, Mut and La Casa Azul.
Likewise, after the success and good reception last year, the programme maintains the ‘tardeo’ concerts, which will be held on 18th January, from 6 p.m. onwards, in Plaça de Cort, with DJs such as Xisqueta, Lluís Riu i Paco and Jaume Colombàs, and in Plaça Mayor with performances by Eva, La Mujer de Verde and Val9.
The day of the Verbena, on the 19th of January, will feature more than 20 musical performances distributed in various parts of the city, including the Plaça Mayor, Plaça de Cort, Plaça del Rey Juan Carlos I and Plaça d’Espanya.
The events will begin in the Plaça Mayor at 6:30 pm with the glosada by the Asociación Glosadora de Mallorca, followed at 7:15 pm by the dance of the Gigantes y Cabezudos, accompanied by the xeremiers. At 7:30 pm, the Mallorca School of Music and Dance will also perform a traditional dance.
Afterwards, the Dragon of Na Coca will set off from Cort, accompanied by a batucada that will lead the authorities to the bonfire located in the Plaça Major, where the Dragon himself will be in charge of lighting it, in a symbolic act that officially inaugurates the night of the Verbena.
From here, the musical performances will unfold in the Plaça d’Espanya, where Victoria Lerma, Suasi, Joan Daus
