Successful participation in the day of blood donation that has been organised for the first time in the Consell de Mallorca
The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, took part in the blood donation and expressed his satisfaction at being able to contribute to this vital cause, stating that ‘giving blood is an act of solidarity that saves lives’. With his donation, the president wanted to encourage all Mallorcans to join this initiative and open the Consell’s doors as a space ‘of hope, solidarity and life’.
For its part, the Fundación Banco de Sangre y Tejidos de las Islas Baleares appeals to people to collaborate and make their contribution. Every day, 200 blood donations are needed. From each donation, 450 ml of blood is extracted, from which platelets, red blood cells and plasma are obtained. Each donation can save up to three lives. Sixty per cent of the donations go to oncology patients, 34 per cent to surgical interventions, 3 per cent to paediatrics and the remaining 3 per cent to gynaecology and obstetrics.
